Warehouse and vault
Mover-managed storage in San Rafael
Goods go from your home straight into our own warehouse with the same crew, into containerized storage or the climate-controlled vault.
What goes wrong with a rented unit
Self-storage hands you the whole job. You find a truck, borrow a dolly, carry everything down your own stairs, and then pick a second day to do it again when the new place is ready. Anything packed in a hurry gets stacked in no particular order, and the box you need first is the one at the back.
A gap between homes is the usual cause. Escrow slips, a renovation runs long, a staged listing needs the rooms emptied, or a move out of state leaves a week between the old keys and the new ones. In Marin, where real estate timelines can stretch, that gap is often the reason storage is needed in the first place.
The other risk is how many hands touch your things. Every extra handling between the house, a truck, a unit and the new address is another chance for damage, and nobody in that chain answers for the whole job.

How mover-managed storage works at Farnsworth
Your goods go from the house straight to the warehouse, and the same crew that packed them handles the move. Farnsworth owns a 40,000-square-foot facility at 2111 Francisco Blvd E in San Rafael, built in 1981, with 12,000 square feet of clean containerized storage space and a climate-controlled storage vault.
Storage-in-transit is part of the offer for long-distance moves, so if your new home is not ready on move day your belongings are held at the Farnsworth facility until it can take delivery. Short stays of a few days or weeks and long stays for a downsizing or an out-of-state relocation both start the same way, with a call to (415) 459-6683.
The care shows in the small steps. One customer, Rosane De Bruym, had the crew pack her San Francisco move-out, label each box, carry everything to her storage unit and arrange it in an organized way once there. The packing, labeling and placement all came from the same team.
Getting your things back out
Items stay in the warehouse until you are ready to receive them. When the new place is open, the crew that stored your goods can deliver them, and unpacking is part of the household goods service if you want it.
Pricing is not posted as a rate card, because storage depends on how much you are holding and for how long. Tell us the dates you are working with and the estimate comes upfront, with no hidden fees.
They packed everything with great care, methodically labeled each box, and transported all items to my storage unit. Rosane De Bruym reviewed the crew on Google.

Storage rarely travels alone
Most stays begin with a bigger move. Storage-in-transit pairs with the Mayflower trips described on the long-distance moves page, and a business that is between spaces can park furniture and equipment through a commercial move. To ask about space or price your own stay, get in touch.
