Long-distance with Mayflower

In-state and out-of-state moves on licensed Mayflower equipment, with storage-in-transit when the dates do not line up.

How a long move comes apart

A long-distance move is mostly a scheduling problem with a truck attached. Every mover asks for alternate pickup and delivery dates, and in summer the good ones fill first. Call late and the dates you wanted may be gone before anyone has seen your furniture.

Then comes the gap. The old house is empty on a Friday and the new one is not ready until the following month. Without storage-in-transit, a family ends up paying for a second handling or living around a truck. A quote that was only guessed from a phone call is the next surprise, because long moves are priced on shipment weight, distance and the services selected, not on room count.

Last, the paperwork. Many customers sign the bill of lading without realising that the Valuation box decides what a lost or damaged article is worth, and that anything over $100 per pound has to be listed on a High-Value Inventory form before the move.

How Farnsworth runs it with Mayflower

From San Rafael we handle in-state California moves and, as an authorized agent for Mayflower Transit, moves to other states across the continental U.S. and beyond. Whether you are heading from Marin County to Oregon, Nevada or the East Coast, a move coordinator works with you from the first call through final delivery. We are licensed for interstate moving under USDOT #125563 and I.C.C. No. MC 2934.

Step one is an in-home or virtual survey, which sets the weight and builds a plan around your timeline. Furniture and fragile pieces are packed with blanket wrap, and the most delicate items are crated. Your load travels on licensed Mayflower equipment. At the other end the crew unpacks and places your things, including disassembly and reassembly where needed.

Book at least six to eight weeks ahead, especially in the summer. That window leaves time for a thorough survey, an accurate written estimate and the dates you actually want. If the new home is not ready, storage-in-transit holds your belongings at our San Rafael warehouse until it is.

Valuation, and what to do next

Mayflower offers two levels of protection. Released Rate Liability is the basic level at no charge, and it pays 60 cents per pound per article. Full-Value Coverage costs extra and repairs or replaces a lost or damaged article, with no-deductible, $250 and $500 deductible options. Whichever you choose, you write it in the Valuation box on the bill of lading in your own handwriting.

Once you have booked, Mayflower's Moving Reminder Checklist can email you weekly steps from eight weeks before the move, and we can sign you up. Keep a working phone number for the destination so our office can reach you on delivery day.

To get started, call (415) 459-6683 and ask for a survey. We will talk through your dates, your weight and whether storage belongs in the plan.
