Moving Marin households since 1971.

Four generations of Farnsworths and their own San Rafael warehouse.

Inside a Farnsworth van: wood floor, stacked blue moving pads, ratchet straps and hand trucks ready to load

Bill of lading, shipper: Farnsworth

One van, a pickup truck, and a family name on the paperwork.

Earl and Lenore Farnsworth started the company from their San Rafael home. More than fifty years later it is still family-owned, still independent, and still loading out of Marin.

Consignment history

Hauling for the Bay Area since the water wagons.

The Farnsworth name has been on Bay Area freight for four generations. These are the entries that matter, in the order they happened.

Before the survey

Estimates, valuation, storage and paying for the move.

Straight from the questions Marin families ask the office most. The full list is on the moving FAQ.

The earlier, the better. Long-distance moves should be booked six to eight weeks ahead, and further out in summer. Every mover asks for alternate pickup and delivery dates; more lead time means we are far more likely to hit the dates you want.

Yes. We survey your household goods in your home or by video to judge the cost and how much van space your things will take, then give you a written estimate. A binding estimate fixes the price in advance for the services listed on it; anything added at origin or destination is charged on top.

Yes. Under Mayflower's Released Rate Liability, the basic level at no charge, liability is 60 cents per pound per article. Full-Value Coverage costs extra and repairs or replaces a lost or damaged article, with no-deductible, $250 and $500 deductible options. You write your choice in the Valuation box on the bill of lading in your own handwriting.

Yes. Our own warehouse at 2111 Francisco Blvd E in San Rafael has 12,000 square feet of clean containerized storage and a climate-controlled vault. With mover-managed storage the same crew packs your home, takes it to the warehouse and delivers it when you are ready.

Anything worth more than $100 per pound is an article of extraordinary value and must be listed on Mayflower's High-Value Inventory form before the move. You receive the form after the survey; tell your coordinator if it does not arrive.

Charges are due before your shipment is unloaded at destination unless later billing was arranged. Cash, traveler's check, money order and cashier's check are accepted; American Express, Discover, Visa and MasterCard can be used for interstate moves with advance approval before loading.
