Local moves in Marin

House and apartment moves around San Rafael and the rest of Marin, packed, loaded and placed by one crew.

Where a Marin move goes sideways

Most local moves do not fail on the drive. They fail on the calendar. Escrow closes a week before the new place is ready, a renovation runs long, or a staged listing has to be cleared out before the buyer walks through. In Marin, where real estate timelines slip often and a move can have several steps, one missed date turns a single-day job into a scramble.

The other trouble is handling. Boxes that were never labeled by room, furniture carried bare down stairs, and a multi-story house with a tight driveway all cost time on both ends. When a household packs its own things, the protection a mover offers for damage in transit can be limited, so a loose box of dishes becomes your problem rather than ours.

Add winding roads, as around Santa Venetia and China Camp State Park, and a crew that does not know the streets loses an hour before the first piece is on the truck.

How the Farnsworth crew runs a local move

We start with a survey of your household goods, in your home or by video, so we can judge how much van space your things will take. You get a written estimate. If you want the price fixed in advance, ask for a binding estimate; it covers the services listed on it, and anything added at origin or destination is charged on top.

On the day, the same crew packs, loads, drives, unloads and unpacks. Furniture is wrapped in blue moving pads, held with straps and moved on hand trucks, and boxes are labeled so they land in the right room. Plans are customised to the household and the budget rather than pulled off a shelf. The written estimate after the survey is the number that counts.

If the new place is not ready, the load can go straight to our own warehouse at 2111 Francisco Blvd E in San Rafael and come back out when you are. Call (415) 459-6683 and ask for a survey date.

After the truck is unloaded

The job is not finished at the door. We unpack, set furniture where you want it, and reassemble furniture that had to come apart. Charges are due before the shipment is unloaded at destination unless later billing was arranged, and we take American Express, Discover, Visa, MasterCard, cash and check.

Choose your protection before moving day. The valuation choice is written in your own hand in the Valuation box on the bill of lading, so decide ahead of time rather than at the curb. Anything worth more than $100 per pound goes on Mayflower's High-Value Inventory form first.

If this move is the first half of a longer one, the next step may be mover-managed storage or a Mayflower move out of state. Tell your coordinator when you call and the survey can cover both.
